Dubrovnik - Day 1 cont/d

After quickly unpacking we decided to take a chance on the weather which looked to be brightening and head into town, about a 20 min walk.

Dubrovnik old town is beautiful; a medieval, walled city and extremely popular with the cruise ships - apparently in high season there can be as many as visitors 8,000 a day which must be hell.  To us it was fairly busy but you could walk around easily enough without bumping into people, but not so good for photos.

So I played around with some arty-farty long exposures.

The old well with was only used for washing, not drinking.

Off the main street to one side are tiny alleyways (lined with restaurants) leading to very steep flights of steps.

The higher you go the streets are much quieter and mostly residential.

At the far end of the main street is a tunnel though the thick city walls which leads to the harbour.

St John's Fort guards the entrance to the harbour and the building is round on its other side.

By now the skies had cleared nicely and there were far less cruise ship passengers around, so we decided to climb up and walk the city walls which takes around 1 1/2 hours and costs about £20 per person but it was worth it for the lovely views.

I love the roof tiles and it's so easy to spot the original ones as the restored buildings only have terracotta coloured ones.

Some of the chimney tops are really sweet, the one on the right reminds me of Mickey Mouse.

We waited patiently for ages for the steps to this lovely building to be empty.

Steps down to the main street.

Apparently a lot of Game of Thrones is filmed in Dubrovnik (the first series in Valletta) but as we've not seen a single episode it's all rather lost on us.

I can't decide whether to call this "The Voyeur" or "My Turn Next"

A few domestic scenes and as you can see the rain clouds were never far away.

Who needs a telephone to talk to the neighbour.

We had an early dinner of grilled garlic prawns, but sitting outside by the old harbour was quite chilly as the sun had gone off.

Spotted this dog watching the world go by as we walked back to our hotel.
